oil palm 1

In the year 2010 while the DPC Kalangala District, I got a vision of palm oil growing. I visited the then LC5 chairman Kalangala District Mr. Daniel Kikoola who guided and encouraged me that there was no loss in growing oil palm. He told me that HE President Y. K. Museveni had launched oil palm growing in 2005, BIDCO was the main grower and government was encouraging the local community to involve themselves as out growers to establish the oil palm nucleus.

I immediately thought of PSAL which saved my dream of providing me with Eight Million Shillings and I immediately bought 10 acres of land at Shs 800,000/= per acre. Government through Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries was providing a soft agriculture loan in terms of seedlings, planting, fertilizers and technical advice to farmers for a period of three years and six months, till harvesting. When one starts harvesting there are some deductions made accrued to what you will have been given. It’s a must to become a member of the Sacco called Ssese Oil Palm growers Sacco (SOPAG Ltd) which does the deduction after your monthly harvests and the balance is paid to your account.

I earn approximately Three Million Shillings (3,000,000/=) monthly, translating to Thirty Six Million shillings (36,000,000/=) per annum.

This plant can be harvested for a period between 25 to 30 years. With the help of PSAL and SOPAG loans, I have managed to build my retirement house in the village and educated my children.

I therefore encourage fellow Police Offi cers of all ranks to involve their families in Wealth Creation and Poverty Eradication. As civil servants, we don’t easily own security items such as land titles, vehicle log books, houses, etc to borrow from Banks and other institutions. So saving with PSAL is the best option.
